Marker Care & Tips
A few practical habits can help your markers perform consistently and last longer. Always follow the instructions and safety warnings printed on the product or packaging.
Cap markers immediately
Replace each cap firmly after use, even if you are changing colours for only a short time. Alcohol-based ink evaporates quickly when a marker is left open.
If a cap does not close normally, check the inside for dried ink or debris. Wipe only the cap opening with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let it dry before closing. Do not push sharp objects into the cap or nib.
Store them horizontally
Store dual-tip markers horizontally in their case, in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight, radiators and other heat sources. Horizontal storage helps keep ink available to both ends.
Choose suitable paper
Alcohol-marker ink can bleed through ordinary paper. Use paper intended for markers where possible and place a protective sheet underneath your work.
Test a colour on a spare area or swatch sheet first. The same ink can look different depending on the paper coating, weight, absorbency and number of layers.
Use light pressure
Let the ink flow rather than pressing hard. Excess pressure can fray or deform a nib. Build colour gradually and allow a layer to settle before deciding whether more ink is needed.
Blending and colour order
For smoother transitions, work while the ink is still slightly wet and use neighbouring shades. A light–dark–light sequence can soften an edge, but paper and technique affect the result.
Dark ink may temporarily stain a lighter nib after blending. Scribbling gently on clean marker paper can help clear transferred surface colour. Stop if the nib appears damaged or the ink flow changes unexpectedly.
Safety
- Use alcohol markers in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep them away from heat, sparks and open flame.
- Do not put markers, caps, nibs or ink in the mouth or apply ink to skin.
- Keep them away from small children and follow any age or supervision warning on the packaging.
- Do not refill a marker with an unknown solvent or mix products unless the manufacturer specifically states that it is safe and compatible.
