30 × 20 cm is the smallest oval with genuine mixing room — the size to buy if you are buying one palette and want it to do everything.

It carries a full row of colour along the top with space to work below, and stays light enough to hold through a session rather than putting it down halfway. Bare, unpainted wood, with the grain running visibly across the face. Wipe it while the paint is still wet; acrylic left to dry can be peeled away.
