The 48 comes in the same 15 × 10 × 16 cm case as the 36-colour set, packed more densely — the weight goes up from 0.55 kg to 0.72 kg while the footprint stays put. What the extra twelve markers buy is colour rather than neutrals.
The blues alone run to five: 70 Royal Blue, 72 Napoleon Blue, 64 Indian Blue, 62 Marine Blue and 74 Brilliant Blue. Alongside them sit shades the smaller sets leave out — 146 Mauve Shadow, 169 Putty, 132 Milky White, 96 Mahogany and 1 Wine Red. Six greys remain for shading: CG5, WG3, WG8, BG1, GG3 and 88 Purple Grey.
